Serre Chevalier resort, called «Serre Che» by familiars, stretches along the Guisane valley , over 15 kilometers, from Briançon to Monêtier-les-Bains. Its proximity to the Ecrins National Park and the Italian border make it an ideal starting point for unforgettable excursions. The station was founded in 1941, with the cableway construction that connects Chantemerle to the top of Serre-Chevalier. Nowadays, it is one of the largest skiing area in the Southern French Alps, with 250 kilometres of slopes between 1,200 and 2,780 metres high, 59 lifts and exceptional altitude. A true paradise for skiing lovers, of all levels.
In Briançon, you can use the Prorel cableway to reach the Serre-Chevalier area, where a 1200 meters slope under the sun awaits you, with a view on city fortifications made by Vauban, listed as a UNESCO heritage ! Sports or culture: make your choice ! At Chantemerle, the heart of the valley, you will be able to learn about the famous world skiing names by using slopes that host international competitions. Luc Alphand, a Serre-Chevalier native, gave his name to a track that is very popular with all its fans. In Villeneuve, take the Casse du Boeuf chairlift: 3 kilometres of slopes for a 900 metres drop.
The most sporty will start on the highest slope of Monêtier-les-Bains: the chairlift of Les Vallons takes you from Villeneuve towards beautiful red slopes that go trough the larch forests. For the more adventurous, the Yret chairlift drops you at the highest point (more than 2800 meters). Monêtier-les-Bains is undoubtedly the wildest area, which offers striking views over glaciers and perfectly preserved peaks. It is also the one that offers the largest field of off-piste, for the most experienced skiers.
